Susan Cady Allred, reading for story time

Hello, I’m Susan Cady Allred. Because there is already another Susan Allred who writes, I’ve chosen to include my maiden name (Cady) in my pen name.

I was born seventh of ten children in the Seattle, Washington area. I’ve been married more than 20 years, live in Spokane, Washington,  and am a mother to four kids.

I write mystery games, am a substance abuse counselor, and blog about writing, weight loss, Down syndrome, having a child with heart defects, religion, and more. Writing is my passion.

I’m active in the American Night Writer Association (ANWA) and am a regular contributor on their blog. I’m active in my church, family, and write like crazy after the family goes to bed at night.

Professional info

I’m a writer who has my finger in many different pots, so-to-speak.  I’m currently querying Unleashed!, doing the final edits of Courting Disaster, and preparing to query Define Normal, a biography written by myself and my three sisters about growing up in a family with 10 kids. In my spare time, I’m writing the second installment in the Courting Disaster Series.

In total, I’ve completed six manuscripts and am on my seventh.

Other projects I’m working on include Gabrielle – a YA Speculative,  two Adult Romance stories, an inspirational non-fiction story about Down syndrome, and a non-fiction about having two children with heart defects (one of which, consequentially, is Elisha – the girl who inspired Unleashed!).

At the rate I’m going, I’ll be writing till I die!

Work experience

Substance Abuse Counselor

2016 – present

About three years ago, I decided my life wasn’t crazy enough. So, I went back to college, earned my ISAS (Idaho Student of Addictions Studies), and became qualified to be a Substance Abuse Counselor. Being a mother to four children, one of which has special needs and goes to several therapies per week, does not afford me the ability to work full time, so instead, I work part-time for two different agencies, doing assessments, occasionally teaching groups, or filling in wherever they need me.

Whodunnit Mysteries, Writer

2012 – present

I write mystery games for groups of 8 to 50 individuals ranging from a variety of different situations.  Games are written for mass production, as well as custom games for individuals or companies wishing to have a mystery game party that is specific to their company or characters. Check out Whodunnit Mysteries HERE. Or our blog HERE

 Down Right Living, Owner/Blogger

2010 – present

I’ve blogged about how having a child with Down syndrome has touched our family since my son was born in 2010.  This blog is slowly beginning to build its fan base and has been an inspiration to pther families and individuals touched by Down syndrome. You can check out the site at: http://www.downrightliving.com or my blog HERE

AC Bouquet, Owner

1999 – 2010

I used to own and run an online candy bouquet & gift basket business until my son was born.  This taught me hard work, internet design and marketing, as well as the importance of getting your name “out there” for others to find you.

  1. Just stumbled on your website (and on Twitter) #InsomniaSisters Anyway, I read through your projects and I’m so excited for you. Can’t wait to check out your stuff, especially the children’s book you have planned. My daughter will LOVE that one. 🙂

    1. Ha! Hello! 🙂 Thanks, I’m especially excited about Courtney’s book. I think of all the books I’ve written so far, hers has the strongest voice. And nearly everyone who’s heard about it gets excited. It’s just a matter of finding the right person to work with.
